Human Resources Consultant Susan D. Word

Susan D. Word is a human resources consultant with over 20 years of experience in human resources management and 15 years of experience in operations management for the public and private sectors, start-ups, and Fortune 500 companies.

Susan began her career as a commissioned officer in the United States Army where she served as a helicopter pilot and maintenance test pilot.  Her expertise in HR grew as part of her work with a start-up team when the electronics testing facility. Susan continued into various HR roles, including serving as the HR Director for the City of Pflugerville, the Senior HR Business Partner for the Lower Colorado River Authority, the Director of HR for Hospitals Now, the Director of People 1stat Invenio Solutions, and as President of her own HR consulting company, forWord Connections, LLC.

Susan’s key HR expertise is planning, initiating, and evaluating human capital initiatives in leadership development, organizational development, and culture development. She seeks to influence employee engagement, performance management, and retention by providing additional emphasis on employee relations and communications.

As the founder of her own consulting practice, Susan brings her blend of technical knowledge, interpersonal skills, and analytical approach in advising and developing business leaders on issues concerning HR management, workforce planning, process improvement, and strategic planning.  She is a sought-after speaker and has presented at a myriad of conferences and professional associations. She additionally conducts business presentations to executive leadership teams, boards of directors, and across all levels of organizations.

Susan holds a Master of Arts in Human Resources Development Leadership at the University of Teas at Austin with advanced training as a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and Senior Professional in Human Resources Certification (SHPR).Additionally, she teaches the HR certification prep course at Austin Community College and Temple College and serves as a volunteer ombudsman for Employer Support of Guard and Reserve (ESGR).
